Material Role Card
Train student to explain one material as a performance decision in one specific location.

Create one Material Role Card for one material in one specific building location.
- 01
Choose one material, for example timber, brick, concrete, steel, glass, stone, plywood or metal.

Choose one exact location where the material is used, for example interior wall finish, wall base, floor slab, canopy frame, window opening, roof edge or threshold.

Draw a small fragment of the building location. Keep it simple, for example wall, base, window, canopy or floor edge.

Fill in the material name and location.
- 05
Write the role. Explain what the material does there, for example protects, carries, finishes, gives light, receives touch or handles wear.

Write the performance. Explain how the material works in that location.
- 07
Write exposure and risk. Name what acts on the material and where it can fail.
- 08
Write maintenance. Explain what must be cleaned, inspected, repaired, protected or replaced.
- 09
Add one atmosphere note. Describe the spatial feeling the material supports.
- 10
Add one buildability or cost note, then finish with one trade-off sentence.
